Hello!
| Small bay outside of Camden ME |
| Love Camden! |
To say that I’m exhausted is to be putting it mildly. I apologize for not blogging yesterday, but
the “Mom situation” has finally come to a head and to be honest, I didn’t have
the energy to blog last night. To recap
about our travels: We got up and out of
the hotel about 8 a.m. yesterday morning, heading to Calais at the
U.S./Canadian border. (We were able to take advantage of the fridge and the
microwave in our room to have spaghetti for a great breakfast yesterday
morning! Let’s hear it for
leftovers!) The weather was very
overcast, cold and blustery, but at least it wasn’t raining, and the prospect
of better (warmer!) weather got Robert into shorts yesterday morning – he may
have been the only person in Saint John thus attired! We made it to the border at St. Stephen by
about 10 a.m. and had a thorough examination by the border patrol before we
were allowed back into the country. As the
agent had inspected the trunk of the car before us, I felt elated that we got
through without any car inspection! From
there, we made our way to beautiful downtown Camden, Maine, where we planned to
have lunch. By that time it was about
1-ish, so I was hopeful that the majority of the locals had already lunched. Unfortunately, the place was packed, but we
were able to find on-street parking (surprise!) and went back to the deli we
had visited last week. We both got
wonderful lobster rolls – the buns weren’t great, but there was just a hint of
mayo in the lobster meat, and it was nice and chunky; just fabulous! I also finished off with a cupcake, and R had
yet another piece of blueberry pie. From
Camden, it was a little over an hour to lovely Boothbay Harbor, and it was
feeling like home by the time we got to the Beach
Cove Waterfront Hotel where we had stayed last week. This time we had room #11 on the main floor –
it was a “normal” room – king-sized bed with a nice balcony overlooking the
pool. We certainly did fill it up with
luggage, that’s for sure!

Headed over to Rocktide
Inn for dinner, on the recommendation of our dear friend, Anne
Vaughan. We both started with huge bowls
of wonderful clam chowder, and then R had their lobster cocktail (no cleaning
work necessary!) and I had their crab cakes, which were OK but not great. We did enjoy the Rocktide Inn, though – they have some wonderful ship models all
over the lobby, and it looks like a very nice place to stay. Maybe next time?
Back to the hotel and to bed about 10 p.m. The hotel really does get quiet at
night! Up about 6:30 a.m. this morning,
and packed up and out about 8 a.m. We
had a very nice drive from Boothbay Harbor to Bristol, CT, where we are
spending the next two nights. (We passed
the North Campus of ESPN – would love some day to have a tour, but they don’t
offer them for the general public…you have to “know” someone, and we don’t…sigh…) And imagine!
Today was a 4 state day!! Maine,
New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut!

We checked into a very nice DoubleTree Hotel, and brought everything in as we are going to have
to turn the car in on Friday, and things needed to be re-arranged. We also stopped by a post office on our way
here and R got two of their “if it fits it ships” boxes to send extraneous
items back to Tucson. We haven’t really
acquired that much, but the jam and jelly from Nervous Nellie’s is really heavy, and I do also want to send back
my new Boothbay Harbor jacket. And, did I
mention that this DoubleTree also has
a self-service laundry? Well, they do,
so guess where I was headed! I wanted to
be able to get as much clean as possible to repack the bags … I’m thinking that
if I do a load of laundry on Sunday in Boston, we should be just fine for
NYC! Yipee! We are now settling down for the night. All the laundry has been done, and R went out
to a Staples and got tape to put the
boxes together. He has also somehow
managed to get everything into the boxes, and we’ll drop them off in the
morning. For dinner, we decided to head
downstairs – they have both a restaurant here and a nice sports bar…next to
ESPN? Go figure?! We both had lovely bowls of clam chowder, and
then R had chicken tenders and I had a wedge salad – the blue cheese was
wonderful. [Don’t forget the Sauvignon
Blanc! – R] I also had some terrific
salted caramel ice cream for dessert…yum!
Tomorrow, we’re headed to New Haven, and Yale
University. We’ve got a tour scheduled
at 11:15 a.m. at the Sterling Library of the Babylonian collection, and then we’re
headed to Yale’s Art Museum. So, a nice
full day of wondrous things to see!
More later,
m
